10 Weeks Old 1/26/11

10 Weeks Old!

McKenzie Ann is 10 weeks old today!  She is growing by leaps and bounds and we love watching :-)
McKenzie is still battling reflux and gassiness and it's been tough. Poor girl is uncomfortable all the time :-(.
McKenzie is getting excited to start daycare in a couple of weeks!  We've been busy labeling all her stuff that will go with her to daycare.  Her first day of school is February 16th!

McKenzie will be celebrating her baptism in March!  We're so excited to see her all dressed up.  Her gown is being made from her Nana's wedding gown...we can't wait to see how it comes out!

9 Weeks Old!

9 Weeks Old!

Our baby girl is now 9 weeks old!  She is growing so fast!!  She had her 2 month check up on Monday and did a great job with her shots!  She weighed in at 12 lbs 2 ounces and 24 inches long.  Her weight is in the 85th percentile while her length is in the 95th!!  Her are some more highlights since last week:
  • Still won't keep a pacifier in her mouth.  I have pretty much eliminated all attempts to get her to take a pacifier.  We are hoping she finds her fingers or thumb!
  • She is getting so much better with burping!  It doesn't take as long and sometimes she does it on her own!!  Go McKenzie!
  • We've switched from Enfamil Newborn to Enfamil Infant formula...although she seems very fussy and gassy since the switch :-/
  • She loves her bath so much she screams when she gets out!!  She loves splashing and leaves the bathroom soaked every night!!
  • We've started some and many sleep training techniques and I think we have a long road a head of us..she definitely loves to cuddle!

January 17, 2011 - Two Months Old

Today officially marks McKenzie's 2 Month Birthday :-).  She celebrated by going to the doctor's this morning!  She weighed in at 12 lbs 2 ounces which puts her at the 85%ile and she was 24 inches long which puts her in the 95th percentile!!!  She is a tall baby!  Her head circumference is 39 cm which is in the 58th percentile.

Dr. Bolton said she has great head control and can use her Bumbo seat now!  She also said McKenzie looks great.  We may need to start trying out new formulas and or smaller feedings to try and stop McKenzie's reflux, but it looks like we just have to wait for her to outgrow it :-(.  Same thing with the hiccups....

Finally, McKenzie got her 2 month shots.  2 in her leftleg and one in her right and she also had a vaccine DRINK!  She did a great job :-).  She cried, but quickly settled down.  We'll see how the rest of the day goes....

We are starting to have McKenzie try out her crib more, so that maybe she'll be able to sleep in it at night within the next 2 months.

We visited Magic Dragon last Thursday and saw McKenzie's soon-to-be first classroom!  She met her new teachers and some of her new friends.  We are very excited for her to start daycare on February 16th!

We also visited with Mommy's kindergarteners...who were very excited to meet McKenzie!

8 Weeks Old!

Our little miss is now 8 weeks old!  We can't believe how much she has grown over the last 2 months.  Next week she goes in for her 8 week well baby visit...wish her luck, she's getting 3 shots!

Here are some updates on McKenzie:
  • Still hates to sit or be put down...LOVES to be held, rocked, bounced, and walked (all at the same time)
  • Has her first stuffy nose.  She's been sleeping with the humidifer and getting saline drops in her nose.
  • Mommy cut her finger while cutting her fingernails....booooooo
  • Hiccups are a little less frequent only about 6x a day
  • McKenzie LOVES her bath...and HATES getting out of it.  She is starting to splash :-)
  • She is still in Size 1 diapers (Thank God, because we still have about 500)
  • She is down to 3 bottles at night :-)
  • Still eating 4 ounces about every 3 hours (except her 6 oz bottle before bed), but we may be moving up to 6 ounces very soon!
  • Mommy and McKenzie started a New Babies group!  She was one of the oldest actually! :-)
  • Mommy, Daddy, and McKenzie are going to visit Magic Dragon on Thursday...McKenzie's first school!

Welcome McKenzie Ann Clough

She's Here!!!!

On Tuesday November 16th at 3AM I was awoken with weird back pains.  By 4 AM they were bad enough to keep me awake.  At 5 AM I experienced my bloody show and was pretty sure labor was imminent!  The whole day is kind of a blur, but I remember timing the pain a lot, googling back pains, and walking to try and get thing moving.  By mid-day, I the pain was increasing and coming at regular intervals.  I was not convinced this was labor though, because I had yet to feel any contractions in my abdomen.  Finally at 4PM, 13 hours after the pain begun I called my doctor to state I may be in labor.  At this point the pains were coming about every 5-10 minutes for 40-70 seconds long.  The midwife at the hospital called me back and truly believed I was in labor, but did not want me to come in yet.  She said to call back if they became 4-5 minutes apart for 1 minute long for 1 hour.  Well by 7:30 PM I had about had it and called Diane back.  She told me I could make my way to the hospital if I'd like.

At 8PM, Bidde (the midwife who came on after Diane) checked me and I was 100% effaced, 3 cm dilated, and -2 station.  Baby was not turned the "right" way so that is why all my labor was back labor.  Bidde said we needed to get baby to turn before she could come out.  She was very understanding and said after 17 hours of labor I could try getting in the tub, but then I could get an epidural!

8:30 PM - I got in the tub and tried to work through the contractions until about 9:15 and then I was ready for the epi!!!!!!!

At 9:30 PM The anaesthesiologist came in to do my epidural.  She tried various times, but I guess something wasn't working and she said she was going to try one more time.  I prayed that this was going to work.  It did!  Although I still felt a lot of pressure it was a whole lot better and manageable now.  After I got the epidural the nurse said lights out to Chris and I!  She wanted us to rest.  Well....as Chris was snoring away, I couldn't sleep!  My blood pressure was dropping...although the only way I knew it was because the machine kept beeping and I felt the pressure was too much, so the anaesthesiologist came and gave me a little something extra!  By this time it was November 17th...and we knew this would be our baby's birthday.

After 25 hours or so of back labor it was time to push around 4:30am.  This was the scariest part for me...mainly because I didn't think I could do it!  Chris stayed up by my head and Bidde and the nurse held my legs up.  I could still feel pressure so I knew when to push.  Bidde let me push for as long as I wanted.  I did sets of 3 pushes then would rest.

After 45 minutes of pushing at 5:09AM on November 17, 2010 McKenzie Ann Clough entered the world!  She was screaming before she was even all the way out!  She was put on my chest right away and stay there through all her tests and clean up!  She only left to get weighed...she was a healthy 9 pounds 3 ounces!  I was astonished that I just delivered a 9 lb baby!!!!!!!!!!  and even more that I only needed 2 stitches!

38/39 Week Appointment

Today I had my 38/39 Week Appointment.  Although it started off scary, it ended well.  When I got in they took my blood pressure and said it was 140/98....wayyyyyyy high!  Last Wednesday it was 120/80.  They took it a billion more times with same result.  So the nurse said she'd let me sit and said she'd take it again after I met with the midwife.  Well the midwife came in and all I could think about was the BP issue!  I knew if I had developed Pre-Eclampsia that I would need to be induced...maybe even that night!  As usual...the midwife was cool as a cucumber and did all the regular stuff.  She took my fundal height which was 38 inches (38 weeks), my weight...which is officially up to 14 pounds, the heartbeart (130 bpm), and felt her position which is still head down and pretty low she says!  Then she herself took my blood pressure 3 times and got 118/78 three times.  She said there wasn't any protein in my urine either, which accompanies high blood pressure when you have pre-e.

My next appointment is a week from today (Monday!)
